I endure
the painful walk.
By broken homes
and empty houses
through deferred dreams
and broken promises
I endure
the painful walk.
By forgotten graves
and smug faces
through credit cards
and grinning bankers
I endure
the painful walk.
By sweat shops
and corrupt corporations
through my allegiances
and misconceptions
I endure
the painful walk.
By our abusers
and their financers
through the streets
and the crowds
we endure
the painful walk.
Cleverly done. I like how you incorporated so many aspects of the world economy in so few words. This is a piece that speaks for many, many people.
Thank you. Glad to hear that you like this one.
You very rarely see the painful walk to jail for such bankers and head of big business for their inept or corrupt ways. Funny that.
Very true.
Things will shift. There are those who are ceaselessly working to make the world a less painful place to walk in. All kindness matters.
Yes, kindness does matter. Thank you for your comment.
it’s a pretty powerful and grim poem of social comment; somehow it feels more of an American context than Australian though we have our troubles too π¦
Probably true.
Awesome! I really enjoyed this poem… poignant
